Along with our allies, we’ve been encouraged to hear this question ring throughout California among those who gave their heart and soul to this fight and within the growing national food movement: “What’s next?” Food Democracy Now! has been a part of this fight from the beginning and along with our close allies [...] The recent Prop 37 campaign in California has catalyzed millions of Americans to join this fight. In spite of an unprecedented $46 million investment by large chemical and food companies using scare tactics to stop the pro-labeling referendum, nearly 4.3 million Californians still voted in support of this measure, winning nearly half (46.9 [...] The Senate passed the 2012 Farm Bill, by a vote of 64 to 35. Overall, this version of the Farm Bill amounts to a missed opportunity to tackle the root problem in our food system: consolidation and corporate control.
