GMO Labeling Issues

An issue of growing concern is the Campaign to Label Genetically Engineered Foods. Many have questioned why it is that while consumers in Europe have the right to know through strict labeling which foods contain GM ingredients and thus to make an informed choice consumers in the United States, purportedly the bastion of freedom, democracy and the “free market” in the world are denied this same right.

Polls indicate that the great majority of Americans who are aware of the issue want labels. Attempts to accomplish some kind of labeling have repeatedly been rebuffed due to tremendous opposition from biotech, which fear loss of sales if people know.

According to a USDA study, “consumers’ willingness to pay for food products decreases when the food label indicates that a food product is produced using biotechnology”. Or, as Norman Braksick, president of Asgrow Seed Co., a subsidiary of Monsanto says, “If you put a label on genetically engineered food you might as well put a skull and crossbones on it.” – Kansas City Star, March 7, 1994

I definitely knew about a majority of this, but that being said, I still believed it had been valuable. Fine work!

    • Nice article, when my kids were in mildde school I stopped buying junk food to save money! I never told them this and they never asked and we all got used to eating more healthy! It’s not 100% healthy but much better then it used to be! Who ever is in charge of buying the groceries for the household can simply take charge of it!

  • Unfortunately this reality is also why lots of foods now use artificial sweeteners and low-carb, low-fat, all this unnatural stuff, vegetable oil, corn oil, etc that is not found in nature, artificial flavors and such. Companies go under financial pressure because its cheaper to switch over to the unhealthy stuff, meanwhile the FDA approves these things and erases a possible guilty conscious. The way these things are done, its all over society, they use financial pressure.

  • Ok, maybe they’re not all aangorrt. Some are aangorrt, paranoid, and delusional. Seriously, have you ever even met any of the people you’re throwing these accusations at? I have. NWO agents my foot. I think it’s aangorrt to go around acting like you posses detailed knowledge of something no expert does, when you really know nothing about it. You say GMOs are poisonous. Mind going into the biochemistry of that a bit? I’m not holding my breath.
